Shrink wrapping for Ecommerce

Selling different products on Etsy, eBay, Amazon, or even on various websites is great for building a business and can be lucrative. If you like to make your own, or even just be a product reseller, you can now list different products you sell, and the sales will roll in with determination, and working hard. 

While sales are gotten, some other owners might consider different types of packaging for products.  This consideration is something that comes from want, or necessity. Some owners also find that the products they sell eventually get messed up during the transit process, while there are others that want to offer better, professional packaging.

Shrink wrapping is a solution for a lot of packaging problems, and this is something that offers a lot of benefits, and uses for different sales, and also the benefits that provide a wealth of different needs for people in the packaging sphere. 

Remember, this is different from vacuum and stretch film packaging, but shrink wrapping involves putting heat on something so that it shrinks and fits the product that’s wrapped. This is recognized in a lot of instances, and one good example is the film that’s surrounding cases of water bottles. 

Types 

There are different kinds of shrink film, but usually they’re made up of four different materials. They’re usually bought in single wound, or center folded types of rolls.  Single wound types come off in a flat type, and usually, they’re folded in a half sort of way lengthwise. 

Shrink bags are another that’s commonly used within shrink film wrapping and come in a variety of various sizes. Shrink tubing is probably the most common type of shrink wrapping that happens, and they usually come in flat rolls that lay in a flat manner.

Another common one is PVC shrink wrapping, and this is like cellophane wrapping. It’s crinkly because it shrink, and then, when the heat is put on there, it’s much more rigid. 

Polyolefin is definitely becoming a more common type that’s used within this due to the softer nature, and the PVC elasticity, while also being approved by the FDA for contact with food and the like. 

What you Need 

So you want to start shrink wrapping your products? 

Well, here’s what you need to make it work. 

First, you need a heat sealer, which comes in a variety of different styles, sizes, and different specifications based on the production levels and the sizes of the product.

Your most basic is going to be called impulse sealers, with a singular sealing bar that seals, and then closes the open ends. They’re purchased for less than 100 bucks and can be up to 400 bucks depending on the different sizes.

You can also get a high output production one called an L bar. These are more expensive, but they’re good with a centerfold type of shrink film, as they offer a lot of efficiency.  While more expensive, it’s important to consider these.

Second thing you need is a heating element.  You can get a heat gun, and usually, they’re good for smaller outputs of these shrink wrapped products, and for starting out with shrink wrapping. 

If you have a lot of products, then you can buy a shrink tunnel, which is like a giant oven.  The product goes in with the conveyor belt, it shrinks down, and then, the product comes out.

These can be very expensive, but if you have a ton of products, it’s much more efficient than other types of shrink wrapping items and elements in order to seal the product effectively.

How to Stop Freezer Burn

Foods are one of the main things that do break down as time goes on. Without the proper use of food preservation, many of these foods spoil within a couple of days. The storage of foods in the freezer does extend the life of the food, but there is a drawback to this: freezer burns. 

How can you prevent this? Well, one way for you to prevent this is by reducing the exposure of air.  Vacuum packaging is one way to get rid of air, eliminating freezer burn in a lot of cases. While it’s not harmful, it ruins the quality of the food.  This is caused by the lost moisture that happens when you leave something in the freezer too long, and then, it’s frozen on the product surface, and is easily seen when it happens. 

The vacuum packaging is a type of modified sort of space for this packaging. Oxygen is something that’s vacuumed from this package, and it moves the air that’s within these. Once the oxygen gets taken out, a seal that’s airtight is made so that it prevents the air from coming in. This reduction of your oxygen and the amount that there is what keeps the food storage longer and keeps the taste nice and preserved. 

The storage of this without your vacuum packaging will still keep it long, but the vacuum packaging actually prevents microorganisms from growing, so it takes out the spoilage aspects in most cases.  When it’s below 40 degrees in storage, the bacteria growth slows, so it’s much easier for you to keep this going.

Here is a list of products that you can do vacuum packaging in the freezer with: 

  • Poultry: done with a film that’s thicker in order to provide a lot of protection 
  • Pork: if you have cuts that are greater than six mils, these larger cuts also are better with a vacuum seal with heavier film in order to protect these edges that are sharp. 
  • Red meats: done in order to prevent inert gas from getting in, reducing discoloration 
  • Fish: cut into 3 mil bags mostly 
  • Deli meats: the bulk is usually vacuum sealed with form fitting seal machines 
  • Pasta: yes, you can take pasta that’s dried out, and also take out the rest of the moisture that might be there, and it prevents the leftovers from getting freezer burn. 
  • Baked items: some baked items are great for vacuum packaging and storage in the freezer.  Anything that does need to breathe however shouldn’t use this 
  • Spices and dried seasonings: this is good for taking out the rest of the moisture that’s sitting in there, similar to how pasta is.  It’s great for long term storage of items in the freezer 
  • Stews and soups: ideal for the packaging of liquids, and using this chamber also prevents the freezer burn from setting in. 
  • Powdered items: this can be done with vacuum chambers, and it is lodged directly into nozzle types of sealers, unless you use a filter 

The only items that really can’t be done with vacuum storage are those that do need to “breathe” so most veggies and fruit might not work, as they may need testing before you do it.

About 30%, up to 40% is, and this is something that a lot of people deal with. With a lot of food purchased, and then stored in pantries and fridges, a lot of customers throw this away due to the shelf life, and the shortness of it.

There are a lot of different ways to prevent this from happening. A lot of people will use vacuum packaging, and with bags and a sealer, you can make the times be a lot longer in terms of storage length.

Food waste is what also drives up the costs as well, so when you store food for longer, it reduces the waste of food, so you’ll save some money and time. 

Vacuum Sealing and Food Waste Reduction 

Vacuum sealing works the way it does because it creates an atmosphere that’s modified.  Did you know that it takes out the number one reason for food spoilage: oxygen? That’s right.

You can get homemade vacuum sealers, and it’s actually better than getting Ziploc bags.  This also causes less ice crystals to form, and better storage for this.  it does work, and you’re saving a lot on costs. 

It lasts Longer 

With those vacuum sealers, you can get food that lasts longer, or sometimes just as long, as storing it through conventional means. 

For instance, meat is only good for a few months in the freezer before freezer burn sets in. but, through vacuum sealing bags, you’ll be able to extend this shelf life for a lot longer. It might be a little bit impractical at first, but it saves you so much, and you can buy stuff in bulk.

You can get large amounts of meat and cuts, and you’ll be able to save this for a long time.

Saving Leftovers 

You can save those snacks and leftovers that you don’t finish. You don’t want it getting stale because of a lack of freshness. With food getting tossed in a few days, you want to prevent that from happening, and you can save those snacks and foods, especially after the holidays.

For a lot of people, folding cartons are a great way to improve the boxes that you have. With different paper boxes that are foldable, and even trendy too, this is a choice a lot of industries have. How They Stand to the Rest 

Overall, they’re great if you want something that also works well if you’re trying to offset some of the boosts, and you want something that’s sustainable, and pretty versatile, since there are some different sizes and shapes to them, and tend to be cheaper to manufacture, provided you’re not spending a bunch of money on printing. 

They’re also great for recycling, as they’re usually totally recyclable. They also work well with digital printing, and other means

However, there is usually little reusability to them, and compared to others, they might not be as strong, but they do stack up as great options for those looking to get the right packaging products for themselves.

One of them is the desk organizer, a fun DIY project that involves a bunch of different opportunities there. You can get a box that’s custom, and once you take this, you can from there form through different die cut templates, different and fun DIY collections. You can even take the current boxes that you have, and then turn them into fun, unique pieces of art that really stand out, and are fun.

The best part is that these templates are free, so yes, you have right now, at your disposal, a generator that creates different dies, with the sky being the limit on this.

Desk organizers are but one of the projects. If you’re someone with a busy, cluttered desk and need something to help properly organize everything, then you’re in luck.  You can build this, throw all of your stuff in there, and create a fun, personalized organizer that’s different from everyone out there.

    • Assemble and glue together the boxes so that they’re all together

The goal of huge packaging for the most part is to create something eye-catching, and emotional for those people who see this.  This is something that a lot of advertisers like to use, and usually, they take the small scale sorts of packaging ideas, blow this up by a ton, and then advertise it. 

Some might also create big packaging for a different effect. Bigger sometimes does mean better, as it will create an impact on a person’s memory. Some consumers may also take pictures, ensuring packaging is viral, and also creates a profound effect. 

This is a unique, fun way to make packaging and products truly unforgettable. A ton of people will remember something big, rather than something small. 

One other type of industry that also loves to use this is food.  Krispy Kreme, for example, made the world’s largest donut box.  It was a box all filled with their famous donuts. A lot of pizza places do this too. Some will even have competitions to encourage people to eat pizza, and if they win, they get a prize. 

Obviously, for a lot of this packaging, there is a cost that’s involved with it. even when utilizing digital printing incentives, it can be quite a bit of money. But, when you’re looking for the biggest packaging in the world, and out there, there’s a lot that you can enjoy.

So yes, if you have the budget for a big piece of packaging, it’s a good idea to consider possibly adding this in there, and making sure that you also have the right packaging means included. If you don’t, then consider how to create a bigger, more profundo surprise effect with the box. From there, you’ll be able to, with this, create packaging that not only your customers will remember, but they’ll also want to talk about too.
