Implementing Audio into Shipping Supplies

One way to make your packaging really stand out is using multi-sensory aspects in packaging. Audio is a good way to do this.

While sight is a great place to start, there are many different branches beyond this, moving past sight into incorporating sound. While touch also works great too, it is important to integrate all sorts of different factors into the way your packaging stands out.

Businesses that Benefit

A lot of businesses are using audio-embedded packaging. Greeting cards are a good example of this, because a little sound can make the card really shine.

Luxury gifts and items too, make sure to use sound to stand out. Again, with these luxury items, you have a lot of fun ways to make your packaging shine for customers that want to make things special.

Finally, promotional boxes.   Some promotional items are definitely going to benefit from this. Adding a fun sound for a limited run of items is a good place to start. Again, the sky’s the limit on audio-embedded packaging needs, making them shine in their own way.

How this Works

Many times, this is done through different means.  The most common is sound modules.  These are modules that will emit a sound. It is pre-recorded. Keep in mind that, if you do use this, the sound can break down over time.

Another one, that you’ve probably seen here and there, are pressure-triggered recordings. These are recordings that are activated through pressure sensors and means. Again, with this, you activate the sound in its own way.

Finally, there is some sustainability that comes with this. While it might not be easy to recycle these items, you can make the tech recyclable.   The proper disposal will remove the sound, and then throw it in the next package. These don’t normally break down in the landfill very well, so using this can be a good way to make this stand out through sustainability.

All of these help to bring sound to the package, giving it a new breath, and second chance at life.

The challenges with sound.

A lot of this packaging is a good way to improve your integration of the sound into such shipping luxuries. However, there are some challenges that come with this.

Protection from vibration is but one example. Lots of times, vibrations can cause issues with the recording, and may impact the circuits. Sometimes, shock causes the sound to not be as clear, so using the right protective elements, such as a foam or padding, are a good place to start.

The same goes for water damage. Water damage can cause the circuitry to mess up, so having the right protection from water is important. Whether it’s encapsulating the audio conduit in some sort of protective plastic or foam, or also protecting the outer part, having this there is important.

Finally, battery damage. Batteries that are damaged cause the sound to mess up, and it can be a bit of a problem. Again, with this type of packaging, you want to make sure that the item doesn’t jostle around, creating further damage.

Creativity with Used Sound Packaging

Some companies have gotten creative with this.

For instance, having boxes that emit a sound, like the jingle when you open a box, is one example. Some have also made it so that it creates a pleasant sound, like flowing water when opening a relaxation kit.

If you’re going to use this, make the audio feasible for the items at hand, so that it stands out, and really bolsters the experience for all that are involved, improving the experience for everyone, regardless of who they are.
